According to the announcement made on June 7th by both Quebec and Federal Governments regarding the new eligibility criteria for the post-graduate work permit (PGWP):
Starting September 1st, 2023, there will be changes to post-graduation work permit (PGWP)-eligibility for students in non-subsidized private schools in Quebec:
- If the student completes his program of study prior to September 1, 2023 and apply for a PGWP within 6 months of completing his studies, he will have access to the PGWP under the current criteria.
- If the student is studying in a program that will no longer be eligible for the PGWP after September 1, 2023, the portion of their studies done AFTER September 1, 2023, is not eligible for the PGWP.
What this means is that their PGWP will be shortened. For example, if they complete 20 months of the 24-month program before September 2023, only 20 months would be considered for their PGWP. This would mean that a student would be eligible for an 20–month PGWP, instead of a 36-month PGWP.
College National has decided to help its students and to accelerate the programs that initially were scheduled to finish after September 1st, 2023, and to meet the new deadline announced by the Government. This means that the students of these programs will attend classes up to 4 days a week (up to 30 hours), for the number of months it takes to complete the program in time. The exact schedule for each program will be communicated shortly, and the acceleration will be completed in 2023.
If a student will finish an accelerated 2-year program (i.e., completed in less than 2 years), he still qualifies and will be eligible for a 3-year PGWP, as the initial duration of his program was 2 years, and the student completed this program in intensive mode.
