Network Management
2-year program

Network technicians set up and manage networks in companies, organizations, or the public sector.  These networks can be of different sizes and nature (LAN, WAN, wireless, etc.)   They oversee the operation of the network, ensure the security of its data, provide support to its users, optimize network connectivity and network performance.

Computer network technicians establish, operate, maintain and coordinate the use of enterprise local area networks or wide area networks (ERNs and ER), core computer networks, hardware, software and related computer equipment. Computer network technicians set up and maintain Internet and intranet web sites and web server hardware and software. They monitor and optimize network connectivity and network performance. They work in IT services in both the private and public sectors.

Main functions

Computer network technicians perform some or all of the following functions :

  • maintain, investigate the causes of outages and manage the use of corporate local area networks (ERNs), wide area networks (RE), mainframe networks and peripheral equipment, computer workstations and Internet connections;
  • test and install computer hardware, network software, operating system software and software applications;
  • use master consoles to monitor the performance of computer systems and networks and to coordinate access to and use of computer networks;
  • provide problem-solving services to network users;
  • install, maintain and investigate the causes of failures, upgrade the hardware and software of web servers;
  • implement traffic control and network security software and optimize server performance;
  • perform routine start-ups and decommissioning and keep control records;
  • perform data backup and restore operations;
  • carry out safety and quality tests and controls;
  • control and monitor the use of e-mail, web browsing and installed software;
  • Perform shell scripting and other basic scriptwriting tasks.

The program is an Attestation of College Studies, at the level of initial training and it is perfect for students who do not have any experience in the filed.

  • Payment of $50 CAD, non-refundable, for file review and $200 CAD Registration fee ($250 CAD payable through Flywire or Credit card – see form in Application section)
  • Copy of Passport Name Page
  • Language proficiency test result (IELTS 5.5 or higher or equivalent)
  • Copy of required high school diploma (others diploma when applicable)
  • Copy of birth certificate translated into French or English by a certified translator indicating the place of birth and the names of the parents.

Admission Requirements

A person who has sufficient training deemed by the college and who meets one of the following conditions is eligible for a program of studies leading to an attestation of college studies:

(1) he has interrupted his full-time studies or pursued full-time postsecondary studies for at least 2 consecutive sessions or one school year;

(2) he is covered by an agreement entered into between the college and an employer or he benefits from a government program;

(3) he interrupted his full-time studies during one session and pursued full-time postsecondary studies during one session;

(4) he holds a diploma of professional studies.

Program

The network management program aims to:

  • Equip students so that they can set up a complete network: computers, connect them to each other, servers (Internet, databases, etc.), accesses, etc. 
  • Empower students to manage the computer park, adapt to new technologies and evolve the network;  
  • Make students able to provide support to network users;
  • Equip students to monitor and ensure the safety of network activity.
