Empowering Minds, Shaping Futures – Where Excellence Meets Opportunity.

Our Entrepreneurship in Technology  program stands out among the traditional vocational entrepreneurship programs (Start-Up business, which focus rather on opening small businesses), or the more general Entrepreneurship programs offered across the country (which usually include one or two law courses).  The reality is that there is a strong interest in entrepreneurship right now, with the advent of successful applications such as Shopify, GoDaddy, Freelancer, Uber, etc. Just think of older models like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc., and how far they got as businesses.

Ours is a program that aims to train entrepreneurs in this field, to launch new technologies such as, for example, computer applications.  It is a program rooted in the world of entrepreneurship and management that will teach students is to find new ideas and to know the possibilities offered by new technologies, including in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence.

Technology entrepreneurs work all over the world and in a variety of contexts: telecommuting, outsourcing tasks, opening an office at a specific location in the world, assisting with job executions, etc.  The digital revolution is changing habits (work, consumption, etc.), the tasks themselves, in short, changing lifestyles, and the new applications that are being created are participating.  New ideas are emerging everywhere in the world.  There is certainly work for technology entrepreneurs

The work function of the program is that of technology contractors.  They are entrepreneurs: they have ideas for a business project, evaluate them and, if they are satisfied with the outcome of their evaluation, take action, seeking financing, thinking about operational issues, ensuring the interest, even collaboration, of key partners, partnering with collaborators, etc.  Technology is their entrepreneurial horizon; rather than investing in projects to open a new restaurant, resort, mining operation or community center, their area of focus in terms of the projects they are considering is technology.

Career Profile

Technology entrepreneurs are, first of all, entrepreneurs.  Entrepreneurs think about projects, look for ideas and evaluate them in different ways; if they are convinced of their idea, they will take action, defining operations, looking for key allies and financing.  They will then work to set up their business.

Technology entrepreneurs perform a variety of tasks:

  • Search for business project ideas
  • Assess business project ideas (different stages and angles)
  • Define processes
  • Managing staff
  • Motivating staff and communicating a vision
  • Establishing policies
  • Seeking funding
  • Set a budget and manage finances
  • Sell your project and product (key partners, financiers, future employees, potential customers, etc.)
  • Managing growth
  • Assess results
  • Managing risk
  • Thinking about the next step

Employment prospects

There is an entrepreneurial ecosystem for technology in Montreal and in many other cities around the world. New apps, online shops or distributors appear regularly (Uber, airbnb, Goodfood, Freelancer, etc.), located in Canada or abroad (alibaba,  baidu,  Orkut).  New projects for robotics, smart clothing and orbital stations are being launched.
